Your adventure begins in Hervey Bay, the best location from which to visit the largest sand island in the world.

Experience the fresh waters of  Lake McKenzie, the shipwrecked remains of the ‘Maheno’ and the spectacular views from India Head. Relax in the ‘champagne pools’ or take a trek to the Hammerstone Sandblow.

Abundant in native flora and fauna, see dingo's, goannas, dolphins and whales. Explore the tropical rainforests of Central Station, the coloured sands of the Catherdrals and at Lake Allom see fresh water turtles.

Drive 4x4 along 75 mile beach, explore the sanddunes and swim in Lake Wabby. Picnic at Lake Garawongera or float down Eli Creek. Make Friends around the camp fire and see magnificent sunsets.

Day 3 On returning to the mainland the guide will oversee the

unloading of the vehicles and transfer passengers back to the

Beaches Backpackers Resort in Hervey Bay where they can enjoy a night out a

meal and have a refreshing drink to unwind after the trip.

Campsite:

  • If you’re lucky, you might get to see one of the occasional Dreamtime storytelling at night, indigenous performances and didgeridoo lessons (unfortunately this one is for men only due to cultural traditions and beliefs)
  • Solar power lighting
  • No curfew

The campsite is shared with other backpacking groups, giving you the opportunity to connect with other travelers, share stories, have some drinks, and make new friends. Guests have their very own area to set up camp for their island stay.
